President's Message - January 2010

Happy New Year!

In Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP), we understand that adult learners place self-actualization at the top of the hierarchy of human needs.  For many of us, this means that when we close the books on one year and usher in a new year, we naturally reflect upon our successes of the past, acknowledge our present state, and optimistically plan for the future we desire to experience.

Now, imagine a room full of highly skilled WLP professionals coming together to accomplish that review on a larger scale. On November 21, 2009, the FWMC Chapter ASTD Board of Directors gathered together to review the Chapter’s previous year’s performance using qualitative and quantitative data as well as the 2009 business plan of Simple, Sustainable, and High Touch strategies.  As you can guess, the excitement and enthusiasm in the room were both contagious and energizing.

We examined where the Chapter had been and where it is today.  In 2009 the FWMC Chapter achieved significant increases in meeting attendance and membership--breaking all previous records to date.  With this realization, we knew we had inherited a successful legacy to build on for 2010 and recognized the hard work and dedication that made those successes possible.  So we collaborated to design a plan full of exceptional benefits and continued High-Touch strategies for 2010.  Our goal is to preserve the open, welcoming feel that bolstered meeting attendance, grew our membership, and increased value for everyone. Excited and optimistic about the New Year, we are preparing to bring you even more High-Value benefits like the following:

  • Professional Development Programs and National ASTD Certificate Programs
  • Programming aligned with the National ASTD Competency Model
  • Interactive participation at monthly Chapter Meetings
  • Networking events in addition to the monthly Chapter Meetings
  • Additional Lunch Meeting programming
  • Leadership and volunteer opportunities to meet your desired level of involvement
  • Improved and enhanced Web site offerings utilizing social networking and Web 2.0 technologies
  • Detailed CPLP Information sessions and support for CPLP CEUs
  • Best Practices Sharing with the Share Our Success (SOS) program
  • Community outreach programs With United Way of Tarrant County

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Fort Worth/Mid-Cities Chapter ASTD  2010 operating year, I extend our best wishes to you for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year, and invite you to join us in making Fort Worth/Mid-Cities Chapter ASTD your Chapter of Choice in 2010.
