Accessible Documents 101: PDF, PPT, and more!

Presented by:  Britne Jenke

Many learning content creators have the challenge of creating accessible documents. Limited time and resources and lack of clear practices can cause accessibility to be overlooked in the document creation process. Technical limitations in content creation software can also cause accessibility issues, and for software that does have an accessibility checker, how and when do we use it?

  • Why accessibility is important in electronic documents for online learning
  • How to structure documents for navigation by assistive technology
  • How to use accessibility features of common document creation software (including Microsoft 365 and AdobeCreative Suite)
  • How to use free automated tools to check documents for accessibility

Feeling overwhelmed by creating accessible documents for your learning content? You're not alone! Join this interactive session designed to address the common challenges content creators face.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn practical strategies to integrate accessibility seamlessly into your existing workflow, without sacrificing efficiency.
  • Get a clear roadmap for accessibility, from understanding key guidelines to implementing practical steps at each stage of your document creation process.
  • Discover workarounds and best practices for navigating the accessibility features (or lack thereof) in your preferred content creation tools.
  • Learn how to leverage built-in accessibility checkers effectively, when to use them in your workflow, and how to interpret their results for actionable improvements.
