The Association for Talent Development (ATD) is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to the talent development field.

The Fort Worth / Mid-Cities Chapter was founded in 1974. The purpose was to provide a three-county network for professionals in the fields of training and development to further their skills. The Fort Worth / Mid-Cities Chapter incorporated in the state of Texas in May 2000.

In 1987, the chapter hosted the ASTD Southwest Regional Conference. The chapter was one of 51 chapters recognized at the 1994 ASTD International Conference & Exposition for having successfully met the criteria established for the Chapter Assessment and Recognition Tool (CHART). In August 2003, the chapter was named National Chapter of the Month.

The CHART process was replaced by CORE, and then by Chapter Affiliation Requirements (CARE). CARE is a set of performance guidelines designed to help chapters deliver consistent benefits to members. It consists of elements in five key areas: administration, finance, membership, professional development, and communication, which are necessary for running a chapter like a business. The Fort Worth Mid-Cities Chapter typically scores 100% on CARE each year.

The chapter hosted a conference of Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas Chapters in 2009.

The chapter hosted a Regional Leader Conference in February of 2018, with about 25 leaders from all over the Texas area as well as some representatives from National.

In May 2014, the national organization American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) — to better reflect and support the global nature, tremendous diversity, influence, and impact of our profession — changed its name to the Association for Talent Development (ATD).

The Past Presidents of the Fort Worth / Mid-Cities chapter were instrumental in building our chapter into the organization it is today. To view the Past Presidents click here

Career Transition SIG Part 5 of 5

    June 12, 2025 | 6:00 - 7:00 PM CT | Virtual attendance only

Free for Chapter Members, $10 for Guests

    Session Description

When leaving education, transitioning teachers are often overwhelmed by the sheer differences between the public school system and the corporate world. One of the greatest hurdles of all is getting on LinkedIn or similar job sites/boards and just being totally blindsided with the upskilling, networking, and career searching components inherent with the platform.

No one taught teachers how to network because we were often cloistered in our classrooms and had no reason to talk with others in our field.

No one taught teachers how to look for jobs outside of education.

No one taught teachers how to regularly upskill because there's no job growth as an educator and thus no reason to learn new things except for a pay bump.

Though this conversation will not be an entirely comprehensive dive into LinkedIn or how to use social media to change careers, I will help you get started with that process. It's incredibly stressful and daunting at first, but we'll figure it out together.
